Though he was not born here, Carl would be quick to tell you that Waconia has always felt like home. That is because Waconia is so similar to his hometown of Mitchell, South Dakota (even to the point that Lake Mitchell has its own island).
Carl graduated from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD with a degree in political science. He has spent his entire 20 year teaching career in Minnesota.
Carl met Jean in February of 2006 and the couple was married in August of 2007. They have been blessed with two sons. Boston will begin middle school in the fall and Colton will be a 3rd grader. Carl began teaching and coaching at Waconia High School in the fall of 2011 and Waconia has been home for him and his family ever since.
As he had done at his previous schools, Carl teaches government and he served 8 seasons as the head coach for the Wildcat girls basketball team. He also enjoys playing baseball for the Waconia Islanders in the summer.
Coaches from across the state recognized Carl’s leadership qualities when they elected him the President of the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association in 2014-2015. He was appointed the Executive Director of the MGBCA in 2018 and continues in that capacity to this day.
Carl has served our community as a member of the Waconia Park Board since 2018. He is also a member of the Carver County Sheriff Citizens Advisory Council.
